
Sussex Grade II control tower involved in WW2 and Battle of Britain vandalised

A Sussex Grade II listed control tower in Tangmere, near Chichester, has been vandalised with "disappointing" graffiti. The building, found on Tangmere airfield, has been there since 1944 and played an active role in the latter part of World War Two after replacing the original building which was destroyed by German Raids in 1940.
The control tower, which has now been vandalised, has been a Grade II listed building for years. Formerly known as the RAF Tangmere Watch Office, it achieved its status for both the form of the building and its historical importance.
Having been involved in active service towards the end of the Second World War, which including helping with missions and being a significant "Fighter Station". The control tower also made history by contributing to "significant moments" in the airfield's history, including the breaking of the world air speed record on two separate occasions.
