Somerset slaughterhouse worker fined £2000 for three animal curelty offences

SOMERSET abattoir worker Andrezej Gutowski was fined £2000 after admitting three animal cruelty offences at Taunton Magistrates.
Gutowski, 53, of Pyrland Fields, Taunton, pleaded guilty to:
While moving three young dairy cows to a stunning pen, repeatedly prodding the animals with a goad, including in prohibited areas thereby causing avoidable pain distress or suffering;
Kicking a young dairy cow, thereby causing avoidable pain, distress or suffering;
Failing to ensure that every animal was moved with care in that he attempted to place a young dairy cow into a stunning pen facing backwards.
All the offences took place at Stillmans (Somerset) Ltd’s slaughterhouse.
In addition to the £2000 in fines, Gutowski was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £190 and £160 costs.
