A man has been fined nearly £1,700 after flytipping more than 60 miles away from his hometown of Coventry. Michael Cawley dumped a large pile of waste on Hall End Road in Bedfordshire.
Last July, Bedford Borough Council responded to a report of fly-tipping in an entrance to a field in Wootton. A search uncovered several items connecting the waste to Cawley.
It was requested that he be present at an interview under caution but he failed to attend. He instead claimed that he had sold his van with the fly-tipped waste in it, said Bedford Borough Council.
Cawley, of Renfrew Walk, Coventry, was ordered to pay a £660 fine, £770 costs and a £264 victim surcharge on Friday, July 28. He failed to attend Luton Magistrates Court and was found guilty in his absence of obstructing the investigation by Bedford Borough Council.
