Surrey Police

A farmer who built a £1 million castle on his own land has been forced to demolish it.

Robert Fidler, 73 was forced to tear down the mock-Tudor mansion after losing a legal battle in 2015.
He chose to erect the castle himself after his planning application was completely ignored.

To avoid others seeing what he was building he kept the whole building hidden under a giant tarpaulin a stack of tyres and of pile of hay bales over a four year period.

He had hoped that a loophole would protect the structure, but admitted he had been "cheeky".
