East Yorkshire crop fire leaves field completely charred causing 'devastation' to farmers

This was the aftermath after a huge blaze took hold of an East Yorkshire corn field.
The fire near Walkington on Sunday afternoon (August 7) at around 3pm, is thought to have been started accidentally, and also saw a tractor and a plough catch alight. Farmers acted quickly to create a fire break whilst Humberside Fire and Rescue deployed four hose reels and four beaters to tackle the blaze.
This incident is just one of many fires that have broken out in East Yorkshire over recent weeks, as temperatures have soared to record highs. The local fire service have raised awareness of the issue and said this incident shows "the devastation caused to farmers' livelihoods when fire spreads so quickly in some of the driest conditions on record".
