Dereham Young Farmers' Club (YFC) has been honoured by a national heart charity after raising more than £10,000 in memory of a friend who died during a rugby match.
The club chose to support Heart UK last year after one of its members lost their partner, fellow young farmer Josh Gilbert from Walsham le Willows, who collapsed at the age of 25 while playing for Thurston Rugby Club in September 2017.
Fundraising events included a 37-mile walk along the Norfolk Coast Path, a Christmas quiz, carol-singing, fireworks evening and a Halloween social event.
The money was donated to the charity, which raises awareness of heart disease and problems arising from high cholesterol.
Now Heart UK has recognised the five-figure total raised by awarding its Community Fundraisers Award to Dereham YFC.
