Dartmoor Forest wildfire severely damaged moorland

A fire that broke out on Dartmoor yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon damaged 700 metres of moorland having been intensified by strong winds.

Seven fire crews were mobilised after reports of a wildfire in Dartmoor Forest were received at 1.43pm.

The wildfire broke out on the road from Moor Gate to Park Farm and it was reported to have been "500 metre fire front on open moorland being fanned by strong winds", the fire service said. Crews are preventing the fire from jumping to the main road with beaters.
