Barn fire near South Brent proves challenge

A barn fire on the edge of Dartmoor posed particular difficulties, not least as it held large amounts of gas cannisters and asbestos.

Just before midnight on Saturday night (October 8) the fire service was called to reports of a barn on fire in the Harbourneford area of South Brent.

Fire engines from Buckfastleigh, Ashburton and Ivybridge were sent together with a water carrier from Plympton.

There they found a large barn, around 25metres x 25 metres, well alight.
